I went to pick up my books this week and here is what was on the old list:

  1. Casanova #14
  2. Walking Dead #49
  3. Guardians of the Galaxy #1
  4. New Universal Shockfront #1
  5. X-men Legacy #211
  6. Project Superpowers #3
  7. Hercules #1 (sold out last week)

Pretty good stuff this week, some old favorites and hopefully some new ones too.  The book I am most looking forward to reading is of course Walking Dead #49.  After last issue, I am really looking forward to seeing what transpires and where Kirkman intends to take the story now.  The book I am least looking forward to would probably be X-men Legacy, nothing wrong with it, but the x-men have been pretty boring for the most part.

Hope you like the titles you picked up.  I am still considering adding DMZ and 100 Bullets to the list.  The back issues and trades I have been reading are awesome.

I have not been able to sit down and read any of this week’s books yet, but when I got home today I was determined to get to The Walking Dead.  This here is the ultimate issue, its the climax of the excellent build-up to this moment.  I warn you now spoilers ahead.

The last issue left us wondering at the very end, and we get our answer right off.  Lori and the doctor are trying to play it safe and the doc has a gun pointed to Lori’s head, faking like she is taking them prisoner, just in case some of the Governor’s men find them.  Rick is relieved that this is all that was taking place.  They gather up the family and try to make it to the truck and escape.  Meanwhile outside we have the Patricia, Billy, and Herschel tied down by gunfire.

Things go south for the prison crew as Kirkman finally unleashes the Governor’s full fury.  Patricia and Billy are killed just as Rick and group hit the outside door.  Herschel is distraught and cannot move.  The others try to make it to the truck while the doc covers with some gunfire.  The doc is shot and wounded and later killed.  During the sprint to the truck, unbelieveably, Lori and the baby are shot and killed.  Rick and Carl make it past the bullets and the Zombies to get to a hilltop outide the prison.    One of the Governor’s soldiers cannot believe what she has done, killing a mother and child, and ends up killing the Governor, shortly after he ends Herschel’s life.

This issue is crazy, I was glued to it.  Kirkman has surely turned the entire title on its head.  Almost everyone we knew in the prison crew are now dead.  Utter chaos.  You have to read this issue, its incredible.  Allard’s ability to draw emotional faces and this type of action is great, and his art, as always is fantastic.  Kudos to Kirkman and Allard for thier amazing work on this title.  Consistent, on time, dramatic storytelling, and detailed art, all lead to a title that you should be reading.  I am absolutely bursting to find out what happens now.     10/10
